Founded in 2014 by the late Steven D. Peña, Snyder Community Resource Center (SCRC) began as a referral agency focused on connecting individuals to drug and alcohol treatment services. Driven by the need for local support in response to the community’s methamphetamine crisis, SCRC set out to provide accessible resources for people struggling with addiction. Over time, our agency expanded to address additional critical needs within our community. Today, SCRC operates four key programs: iCare (emergency assistance), Snyder Area Naturalization Assistance, The Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, and Community Care Initiative.

Since our inception, SCRC has strategically partnered with organizations to broaden the range of services available to support individuals and families to take a step forward. Early partnerships enabled us to deliver essential assistance to individuals facing addiction, poverty, and the challenges of immigration. These partnerships are vital in offering streamlined, non-duplicative services to those in need.

From our roots in addiction recovery, SCRC has grown through meaningful collaborations with individuals, businesses, and organizations, allowing us to address our community’s economic, personal, and therapeutic needs with sustainability in mind.

Steven D. Peña

Late Founder

Starting a nonprofit from the ground up took dedication. Steven founded Snyder Community Resource Center (SCRC) in 2014 with a mission to help the addict find necessary treatment. It was his goal and passion to see individuals and families in the community thrive and become self-sustaining. As a native of Snyder, the community impact SCRC makes on people hits extremely close to home. Steven served as lead pastor of Snyder First Assembly for over 20 years, and had the ability to bring knowledge of non-profits to the SCRC. As a leader of multiple staff members, Steven understood budgeting on an unpredictable budget.

The Staff and Board of Directors of Snyder Community Resource Center, along with our entire community, felt the deep loss of our Founder and President, Steven Peña, in August 2021. A public servant in every sense of the word, Steven's influence is woven throughout the community of Snyder.
With steadfast effort, Steven pushed each person that came through our doors forward in a way no one else would or could have. Steven loved his community and he worked tirelessly to help improve the quality of life in Snyder. He wanted what was best for every person he encountered and made sure there was a place for everyone to go to get help tailored to their need.
Steven saw the resource center through to astounding growth. From helping five people each year to now helping thousands. From providing hundreds of dollars in assistance to now providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in assistance.

Through Steven, Snyder Community Resource Center’s reach benefited the entire community through emergency housing assistance, facilitating drug and alcohol rehabilitation, utility assistance, and other resources during times of crisis. All because one day, one man said: "I just want to help people." Undoubtedly, Snyder is a better community because of his tireless efforts to support others.

Steven’s legacy for ministry, service, advocacy, and compassion has made a meaningful difference in so many lives. His legacy of serving will live on forever. The impact he made in our community will be remembered for generations to come and his love of people will be paid forward by those that were lucky enough to have been loved by him.

Steven Peña put in the effort, time, and sacrifice to ensure our small rural community had resources to take care of people, now therefore; the Board of Snyder Community Resource Center acknowledges and honors Steven for all his work and what he has done.

To honor Steven’s life, his commitment to his community, and his passion to serve people, Snyder Community Resource Center has created a scholarship fund. This scholarship will help at-risk students within Scurry County who want to take a step forward with their education.

Jessica Robbins

Executive Director

Growing up in Snyder, I’ve seen firsthand the tremendous needs within our community—often for people right next door. At Snyder Community Resource Center (SCRC), we’re dedicated to meeting those needs, and helping people take a step forward. I have one daughter and I want her to witness the impact and understand the difference one person and one organization can make.

After graduating from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX, I gained valuable experience working in various nonprofit roles, from foster group homes to long-term treatment facilities. These experiences deepened my understanding of nonprofit management and led me to pursue ongoing professional training to strengthen my skills. I earned a Nonprofit Executive Leader certification in April 2021 from the Nonprofit Management Center and continuously engage in training to support SCRC’s growth.

Since 2016, I’ve overseen SCRC’s programs and fundraising, stepping into the role of Executive Director in 2021. While the needs we encounter often exceed our available resources, I’m proud of the growth we’ve achieved in every program. We’ve expanded and introduced new initiatives to empower individuals and families in Snyder, allowing our community to make meaningful strides forward.

Claudia Williams

Administrative Assistant

I’ve called Snyder home my whole life. I am married and have two grown daughters and two grandkids. I joined Snyder Community Resource Center (SCRC) in March 2023, right when things were really starting to pick up. Stepping in to help manage the growing needs of our community has been such a blessing. I love connecting with each person who comes through our doors, hearing their stories, and hopefully giving them a sense of hope and support.

Life has thrown me my own share of challenges, and I think that’s given me a heart for the people we serve. Outside of SCRC, I also lead the Freedom Group at Snyder First Assembly. This group means the world to me because it’s a place where people—many of whom come through SCRC—can feel safe, find healing, and experience genuine freedom as they work through life’s struggles.

This community has given so much to me and my family, and it’s an honor to give back, whether it’s through SCRC or the Freedom Group. I love being a part of something that’s helping people take steps forward.
